If This is Hardcore....

At what point did the ethics of punk become so perverted that "wigger" frat boys are now considered hardcore. I'd been reading the book, the Philosophy of Punk, which talks about the social and political movements associated with the punk scene. It seems weird that now, bands who promote things like "partying" and "ignorance" are now what's popualar.

"If this is hardcore, I'd rather be punk / If this is straight edge, I'd rather be drunk" -D.S.-13

Black Flag wasn't singing about their luxury automobiles.

you're arguing semantics now and that's weak. the principle is exactly the same and you know it. your original statement was "It seems weird that now, bands who promote things like "partying" and "ignorance" are now what's popualar." and a ridiculous, idealist statement it was. hardcore punk bands have been singing about partying and ignorance since they learned to turn their amplifiers on. what social and political message were JFA trying to get across with "coke and snickers"? circle jerks with "i just want some skank"? the fact that this band mentions "luxury automobiles" is irrelevant -- and you'd have to be quite dim to not understand the entire video is tongue in cheek.

say you don't like the band... don't like the song... don't like the sentiments. say you don't like whatever you want but don't try to justify it on some higher level of understanding of the meaning of "punk" or that this is a sign of the times.

I mean people can like whatever they want, but the thing about punk that always drew me in was the fact that I could relate to at least something in it. I really can't relate to hanging out a lake, driving a Mercedes, or partying in general. I'ma fuckin nerd with no friends. I sit home and listen to records or watch tv. These dudes just seem like the cool popular kids in school.

I'm not saying that every band has to have something revolutionary to say, but I can't identify with any part of this.
